Old World Roman architecture came to terms with modern day living in Realty Landscaping Corporation’s presentation at the 2005 Fort Washington Home Show.On February 24-27, a wide array of vendors came to dazzle homeowners in the Delaware Valley area; Realty Landscaping was amongst the feature gardens at the entrance to the show.

To fulfill this years show theme of “Backyard Haven,” the display invited you to come relax in one of the outdoor living spaces. Two terraces connected by a circular staircase divided the display into dining and living areas. To intertwine the sight and sound of water, jet fountains were dramatically lit to reflect movement in the garden. Accent lights also enhanced the silhouettes of the foliage and the artistic details that were found in the surroundings. Shade canopies introduced elements of marine living with sailcloths spanning above the dining area. The clean lines and bold colors of the textile added drama and excitement to appeal to those seeking contemporary style.

A spark was lit in everyone’s eyes by adding an element not commonly found outdoors. The “Ring of Fire” was one of the main attractions of the display, where fire and water merged to create a dramatic focal point. The conventional approach to adding fire into the landscaping was a fireplace featured on the upper terrace. Cooler nights will be more comforting outdoors with either of these two features, allowing for longer entertaining seasons.

Nature was the backdrop to the display with a variety of leaf colors and textures. Forsythia, Rhododendron and Azaleas are always the spring favorites. Bringing in Southern Magnolias, Witch Hazel and Pieris then extends the bloom period. Flowers flowed into the living space with an assortment of ceramic planters bursting with color.
